DEVELOPMENT OF A MODEL HERBAL GARDEN
AT
TAPOVAN ASHRAM

Volunteers :

A basic necessity for the fulfilment of the objective of creating a model herbal garden is personnel and material support. It is envisaged that an initial group of six committed volunteers working for a period of ten months (June 15th to April 15th) could accomplish a major part of the job. This could evolve into a full fledged training programme at a later stage.
The Ashram would welcome volunteers with the following backgrounds :

  • Organic farming (One person)
  • Herbal plantation (One person)
  • Herbal medicine (One person)
  • Land preparation and farm labour work (Two persons)
  • Administration (Typing, record-keeping, computing, design and library maintenance) (One Person)

These skills should be complemented by as desire

  • to lead a simple, austere life (meditation and yoga practice, satvik vegetarian food)
  • to learn while doing manual work
  • to learn Indian culture and social systems
  • to gain a working knowledge of Hindi
  • to interact with the local community

The contribution from each volunteer, to include board and lodging, learning Hindi, yoga and meditation support, educational and cultural tours, travel expenses, the attachment of a local co-worker, the use of office facilities and incidental and project costs, has been set at £ 5,000 (U.S. $ 6500) making a total of £ 30,000 (U.S. $ 40000) for six persons for ten months.
